Gardeners understand gardening, we're gardeners at The Great Outdoors Garden Center
The Great Outdoors Ethos
We believe that customers prefer to shop where they can be inspired. When given a choice between a cold steel and concrete building, or shopping quite literally, in the Great Outdoors, with the sights and sounds of babbling waterfalls and fountains, sweet songbirds and energetic squirrels, all under a canopy of towering majestic oak trees, the answer for many is obvious.
e·thos – noun
- Sociology. the fundamental character or spirit of a culture; the underlying sentiment that informs the beliefs, customs, or practices of a group or society; dominant assumptions of a people or period: In the Greek ethos the individual was highly valued.
- the character or disposition of a community, group, person, etc.
- the moral element in dramatic literature that determines a character's action rather than his or her thought or emotion.
We desire to inspire with style and innovation, with display ideas that our guests can use in their own homes. We want our patrons to relax, and even have an on-site restaurant. We want our patrons to have fun with our many workshops, concerts, events, kid’s play area, and our famous “Giant Wind Chime” with its magical, memorable tones. We want our patrons to know that they are receiving great value, a combination of great prices with helpful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff that really know about gardening in our Central Texas area. We also believe that our patrons care about our planet and appreciate our efforts in promoting products that are not only effective, but actually help to build and sustain Nature’s perfect balance. We offer free re-use/re-cycling of plastic growing pots, and are in the process of changing over to compostable grower pots in the future. We do our own rainwater collection and have a display roof garden that actually insulates the house and lengthens the life of the roof! Of course, plants are the best tool to reduce CO2 and produce life sustaining oxygen! Finally, we believe that our patrons feel that supporting small independent businesses is good for our economy, and helps make Austin unique, desirable and livable. We really love and appreciate our patrons and rely on their feedback to become better and better.
Thank you for your support! The Great Outdoors
